Zack Greinke struck out 14 batters as the sizzling Seattle Pilots bested the
Anchorage Icemen 1 to 0 at The Igloo.
 
Greinke(15-1) was virtually untouchable.  He didn't allow much, just 4 hits
and 1 walk in 9 innings.  Anchorage tried unsuccessfully to come back in the
9th.  
 
Johnny Cueto(15-11) was the losing pitcher.  He pitched 8 innings allowing
only 4 hits and 1 walk. Tom Johnson was obviously impressed with the pitching
of Greinke, 'That guy made us look a little silly out there tonight.  We just
couldn't get to him at all - everything was working for him.  I just hope
that he got that kinda performance out of his system.'
 
PHOENIX AT WINCHESTER

In a good matchup it was the Phoenix Firebirds 8, the Winchester Cathedrals 5
at The Steeple.
 
Winchester found themselves trailing quickly as the Phoenix bats came through
in the first inning when they scored 6 runs on 6 hits.  That early scoring
held up.  Overall Phoenix out-hit Winchester 16 to 11.  
 
Masahiro Tanaka(11-8) was the winner allowing 4 runs in 7 innings. Roberto
Osuna preserved the game for Tanaka, recording his his 25th save.  The losing
pitcher was Michael Wacha(6-9).  He pitched 1/3 of an inning and surrendered
6 hits and 1 walk.
 
 
BATON ROUGE AT BIRMINGHAM

Jeff Samardzija was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and Josh Harrison had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Birmingham
Badgers defeated the Baton Rouge Blasters by a score of 5 to 3 at The
Den.
 
Samardzija(10-13) pitched a solid game.  He went 9 innings surrendering 7 hits
and 2 walks.  Baton Rouge went down quietly in the 9th.  
 
Tommy Milone(6-3) was the loser in relief.  He pitched 2 innings giving up 2
hits and 2 walks.
 
MEMPHIS AT LOS ANGELES

Danny Salazar racked up an impressive total of 14 strikeouts at The Milky Way
where the Los Angeles ballclub beat the woeful Memphis Hound Dogs 5 to
1.
 
Salazar(12-8) simply dominated Memphis.  He allowed only 4 hits and 1 walk in
9 innings.  Los Angeles finished with 7 hits in the victory.  
 
Chris Archer(3-12) suffered the loss.  He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 6
innings of work.  Salazar was obviously very pleased with his performance in
the aftermath of the game, 'It was just one of those games where everything
worked.  My arm felt great, heck, I could have pitched another two or three
innings.  I only hope that I can do it again next time out!'
 
CHARLESTON AT DETROIT

Detroit Cobras broke the deadlock in their last at bats, pulling out a 4 to 3
win over the Charleston Rebels and sending their hometown fans home
smiling.
 
The game was decided in the 9th inning.  After an out was recorded, Scooter
Gennett doubled.  Francisco Cervelli followed and he doubled making Detroit
victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd.  Despite losing,
Charleston out-hit Detroit 11 to 8.  
 
The win was credited to Jeurys Familia(9-2) who went 2 innings allowing 1 run.
Adam Warren(1-1) was tagged with the loss in relief.  He surrendered 1 run
and 2 hits in 1 and 1/3 innings.  
 
 
THUNDER BAY AT NEW YORK

Robinson Cano had 3 base hits and 5 RBI and Corey Kluber had a complete game
as the New York Knights beat the Thunder Bay Storm by a score of 10 to
5.
 
Cano provided much of the offense.  He lined a base-hit in the 3rd inning,
singled plating two runs in the 4th inning and doubled plating all three
baserunners in the 5th inning.  New York rapped out 13 hits for the
afternoon.  
 
Kluber(19-8) finished the game allowing 5 runs in the victory. Yovani
Gallardo(15-7) was hit with the loss.  He couldn't find the strike zone and
allowed 7 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.
